Hello! I'm Fredrick (Ricky) Barfield

Data Science Student, Looking for Internships

Being a techno-geek and video game nerd from an early age, I’ve always been enthralled by the digital world. To me, it represents the limitless potential of human growth through ever-expanding methods of collaboration. With my current focus on Data Science, combined with past software development experience through independent study and internships, I’m determined to break into the wide and fascinating world of data analytics.

The idea of parsing large volumes of information to uncover meaningful correlations—and communicating those insights directly to stakeholders—is immensely appealing. Data science has the power to steer businesses in the right direction, whether it’s evaluating the effectiveness of medications during a public health crisis, predicting customer purchasing patterns to optimize inventory and reduce waste, or analyzing sports performance metrics. Data scientists are essential contributors to teams that want to make informed, meaningful decisions—and that ability to create real positive impact is exactly what drives me to pursue this field with passion every day!

When I’m not coding or learning, I can be found drawing, playing bass guitar, dancing West Coast Swing, or training in circus arts.

  • 📖 I’m currently immersed in ASU’s Data Science curriculum. While I’ve had a taste of how the institution approaches technical topics through courses such as Data Ethics and Introduction to Programming (Java), I’ll be fully engaged in data science–focused courses rather than general education requirements starting after Spring 2026.
  • 🔭 January 5th, 2026 I've begun working on the "Data Science Specialization" courses hosted by John Hopkins University on Coursera, in order to have an edge on my upcoming coursework. It's been a blast learning more about the profession and I'll soon be diving into intricacies of the R programming language!
